Royalla Solar Farm, ACT

2014

Another project by Dave Turner Engineering.

Acciona Energy have built the Royalla Solar Farm approx 23 km south of Canberra to generate 20 megawatts of Electric Power.

Dave Turner Engineering (DTE) worked with Acciona engineers to develop the SCADA system to enable the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) to monitor the operation of the solar power station.  DTE configured and coded an Invensys SCD5200 RTU to receive data from many types of Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), mainly using Modbus over TCP/IP.  The SCD5200 transforms the data for onward transmission to ActewAGL via DNP3, who then forward this information to AEMO.

Sources of data include:-

  • Many Enertis Data Loggers, mainly sending data about the power inverters
  • SEL351 protection relays
  • MiCOM P141 protection relays (using DNP3)
  • Blackbox G4K Power Quality Meters
  • A Meteorological Station

Gunning Wind Farm, NSW

2012

This station on the hills near Goulburn generates up to 46MW of electric power, with Country Energy (now part of Origin Energy) providing the connection into the grid.

Working for Invensys, Dave engineered the RTU to transfer data from Acciona's SCADA system to Country Energy.
